Ok been looking over countless post about smoke houses. My question is can a Smoke house be made with the intent of using wood as the heat source?

I saw plenty that are using propane to heat, but I think i would prefer using real wood.

    What say you?

Yea for sure. I am building one now. I'm an amateur but your best bet is to have the wood in an offset smoker. I am almost done with mine if you want to take a look as well as ATCNick built a really nice cedar house. To my knowledge with the high heat of burning wood you want it offset with a baffle or 2 to control heat. Differently go AMNPS cold smoking as well.

Can you send pictures of your?

Also with a off set heat source will the smoker get hot enough to cook food?

As far as the heat source goes from what I have seen burning wood generates heat upwards 700 - 800 degrees. Sometimes even higher. The trick is insulation. ATCNick did his firebox out of firebricks and regular bricks. I am going to do my SFB as a 1 piece cast kind if like a rocket stove (you can YouTube rocket stove). We both bought cast iron door kits from Vogelzang. He used 6 inch stove pipe and I am going with 8 inch stove pipe.
