Hi all, name is Allen and I'm a smoking noob. Stumbled upon this forum from some google searches. I'm getting a smoker for Christmas from the wife but I get to pick it out. :)

I'm brand new..never smoked anything before. I live in Greenville, SC and we have a lot of really good BBQ/Smoke houses here and I've always been wanting to do some smoking on my own.

Discovered recently that I can get a nice gas smoker (I thought my only option was electric or charcoal. <-- see, I am a total smoke noob!)

Anyways, I'm leaning towards the Smoke Hollow #30169G (30", LP) smoker as I can't seem to find a good deal on the GOSM online (Walmart is out and Bass Pro is too expensive).

Excited to be a part of the group here to see what I can learn and hope to get some good pulled pork and brisket smoked in the next few weeks!

~Allen

Hello Allen, looks like you've made the right move to SMF. You're in for some fun and then some. It's all good my friend.

Allen welcome to SMF glad you decided to join us. I recommend signing up for Jeff's 5 Day Ecourse it has some great info and its free. As for the smokers there are lots of choices and I wouldn't recommend one over the other they all have advantages and disadvantages. As for the GOSM i saw them in Bass Pro last week and the 24" wide was 199 bucks.

Welcome to the SMF Allen. I'm glad you found us. This is a great bunch of guys and you'll learn a lot from them. We are glad to have you on board!.

Hi Allen. Welcome to the forums. It is good to see a local guy here. I am only a few miles away from you in Simpsonville. If I can help you in any way just let me know. There's alot of smoking talent through out these forums and you can learn from some of the best right here. I have used alot of the info from here with great results. hey now! :) Yeah, I rarely run into Allen's with the E. I feel privilege of having a weirdly spelled name.

hey Rick,

Cool! Another local here. Yeah, I'm a huge fan of Henry's Smokehouse, Mutts, Smokin' Stokes, and some from a few local caterers. I just figured to feed my addiction to ribs and pulled pork I might as well smoke my own!
