Learned about this many years ago camping up at Wilderness State Park. My dad has been doing this for years. I thought I'd attempt it today to get some practice before camping season this spring. Make 21"tall baskets 3" diameter with chicken wire. Make a 28" square with the baskets. Wrap with heavy duty 18" tinfiol. Crease the top of the foil to keep it together. Leave about a 1" air gap to the ground. Double bag with oven bags, dump in a beer, stuff with apple/onions, brine turkey, I also injected with equal butter, syrup, honey and less than 2.5 hours u have a moist bird. Great setup when u are camping and have no smoker along with ya!!!!(actually great bird whenever u want to try someting that is badass) Good luck, enjoy!!

Takes about 25 lbs of charcoal. I'd like to get one of those aluminum deals that holds a turkey in a deepfryer. I think that would be real easy to stick through the bird, wrap in the bag and attach to my chain. Anyone have specs on one so I can build one??

Ones I have seen are just a shaft with an eyebolt at the top, and 2 "T" bars with each end turned up a bit welded at the bottom. The "T"'s hold the bottom stable.
