Has anyone here hung and smoked whole chickens? If so, how did you hang them? I have a UDS with three. Hanging rods. I will be using 3 in stainless hooks. I have ten hooks

    Any help would be appreciated

If you have rods and hooks, then, you have almost everything you need. The missing link is butcher's twine (any clean, heavy cotton cord will work...no synthetic fibers...they could melt). Tie the legs together at the knuckle with a cross-over several times for strength so it looks like a figure-8 (tie the wings to the breasts, too, if you wish) and put one hook between the legs. Hang legs up, breast down. Turkeys can be smoked this way, also.

  3. You could also consider doing beer can chicken where they stand up. I bet you could fit 5 or 6 on 1 rack doing it that way. Here is a picture with 3 I did. Plenty room for more on there.

Yep this is how I do it, except I don't tie the wings. I tuck the tips back over the wing. This photo shows the wings tucked

Huh...cool trick!!! Everyone needs something to believe in: I believe I'll steal that one for my maiden voyage with a rotisserie kit for my Weber 18 OTG kettle. Just getting ready to start the prep and get the fire started in a bit...with a wing-tuck my bird won't have bikini-lines on the breasts...LOL!!!

Here's how you can do lots of turkeys... IIRC this was 53 lbs in my big poppa
