did you weld them together yet? i was thinking that welding on the lid will warp the hell out of it as i found out, i just bought that kettle grill to make a lid for mine and its too small like the problem your haveing but im thinking about getting some round steel stock and attach it to the lip to make it bigger, i will let you know if that works.

Net yet pan, been to busy at work. Next week I have several welding projects @ work to get done,so while I have everything setup for welding, think i will sneak in my lid one evening late.I think if I spot weld and alternate sides and work my way around, warpage should not be a problem. When I get it done I will post results and pics.

Salt,

Here's something else for you to think about.

It looks like the inside diameter of the grill is the same as the outside diameter of your barrel (not the lip for the lid), maybe you could have an 8" wide circle bent that would fit on the inside of the barrel.  You could cut off 2" of the ring and bolt it 2" below the top and the take the 6" piece that is left and use it for an extension that would hold your 3rd grate (or rotisserie?) it would fit inside of the grill to hold it in place and the only welding you would have is the seam on the 8"ring you had bent.

Just thinking out loud.

Hey salt, he could be on to something there. With an extension ring, you would have a good excuse to check out the rib-o-lator.

Are there pics around showing what you are talking about? I think I can picture what you are describing.
