Found this at my local Big Lots and had to share with everybody since the Kettle Lid problem seems to be re-occuring.

Here is the Kettle Grill I got at Big Lots for under $32 Out-The-Door. Beats Wal Marts price by over $10, and you get more bang for your buck too!

This is definately cheap, but it works like a charm. The cool thing here is that the bottom of this kettle grill works great as a lid as well. It has a much bigger domed shape too. I think I could do beer can chickens on my top rack now. So of course I have to build my 2nd UDS

(the one that I made my avatar logo for)

I will take some pics of the mods I did to make it fit properly. But hammering the lip flat with a rubber mallet, then setting on drum (bottom of drum always fits better whether open or closed drums), then tapping excess lip down around UDS Drum bottom.

I just bought one of those last week and what you say is true, more bang for the buck. I have two drums and will be able to use the bottom and top of this unit for lids. I also got to use one grill and then used the ash grill as the bottom of my charcoal basket. Instead of reworking the bottom piece to fit the top of the drum I just use two large bull nose clips to hold the lid in place, works well. Isn't it great when a plan comes together.

I too purchased the Uniflame from Walmart. But it was $40+tax

It works ok, however the lid handle is placed in the front, for hinged usage, so that's a minor draw back.

Also, there was a lot of plugging to do, for all the pre-drilled holes for the hinges. Don't get me wront, it still works like a charm now, however, The bottom of that one I have yet to mess with.

The advantage of the cheaper one, is that where they cut corners actually benefits the UDS user because the kettle bottom has the exact same exhaust and circular aluminum cover as the top does. So it already looks/functions like the lid.

Only mod I have to do for the bottom is flattening the lip, and then tapping down. Then adding a $3 handle to it.

I will post pics. Let me know if you get the bottom of the Uniflame to work as well
