Twin Stumps Cabinet Trailer

Discussion in 'Other Builds' started by jwsimpleville, Dec 8, 2013.

  1. Okay so call me crazy but my brother and I have decided to build a twin cabinet smoker modeled after the stumps clone builds you find all over the Web.
Here is a few pics of the trailer frame we started with, I will add a few more pics of the progress we've made over the past several weeks.

  2. In case you're wondering that was an old decommisioned Highway arrow sign used in construction zones.
Here you can see the sign materials have been stripped from the trailer and we covered it with a quick coat of paint to prevent any rust from spreading.

  3. Hello I'm the other builder in this project. Just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for any advice on our project look forward to hearing from everyone.

Nice job on the old sign trailer! Looking forward to the rest if the build!

  7. So we got the fireboxes built

You can see that we made use of the 1/4" scrap we had. We got alot of drops froma local fab shop for $10 I was shocked when they didn't really care about the weight and just said "take as many as you need"

    Hows this project coming?

  9. So we started sheeting the inside of each cabinet. We actually got a chance to dry fit some exhaust tips to see how it would look. I'm actually liking it, what does everyone think?

Interesting. How do those fire boxes fit in/work?

Looking nice you got the Horns on the cooker just need the rest of the cow.LOL

  12. Love the look. Nice personal touch.

  13. Each cook chamber is separated and insulated with a minimum of 2" insulation. So each firebox is built to heat is respective chamber, holding approx one 20lb bag of hardwood charcoal. The design is likes stumps build only twice over in a trailer form.
We haven't seen where anyone else had done that in the past so we're not even certain it will work.

It should work fine, just basically 2 stumps in one big cabinet. I love the idea.

I'd consider doubling the insulation between them, and insulating the square tubing also. (looks like it may be too late, but you might be able to do it by adding another frame of tubing, for another 2" of insulation) That's assuming your doing separate chambers so you can run at different temps, which you wouldn't want any radiant heat to leach into the cooler chamber, and cause a hotter side in the cooler chamber)

  15. We've definitely thought about that, and will probably just add 2" to the inside wall of each chamber for a total of 6" between the cabinets.

6" of insulation should be more than enough. This thing should be awesome.

What are the overall dimensions of the cabinet, and then dimensions of each cook chamber?
