Looking good so far.  I'm interested in the equipment in your Avatar and also something looks interesting on the right of your UBS along with the bottom left. Hmmmmm!  I smell smoke.

Tom it's just a chiminea to the right and the old faithful kettle grill on the left.

The avatar is a very old potbelly stove that i put a turkey fryer burner in the very bottom of (right under neath the shaker grate) and i piped it to a home made pine smoke box...I also attached a Smoke Daddy onto the smoke box.  I mostly use it when the weather is inclement, cook smoked baked potatoes or corn on the cob when i have the other grills doing other things or it's a great warmer for things i've cooked on the other grills.  I also use it for cold smoking.  The thing that is attached to it is a clamp on grill light.

You have some great equipment there for sure.  Now you have my guts rumbling.  One thing we miss being from your area is the steamed sweet corn party's come picking time.  Different ones would plant different corns and we would move the equipment to whom ever's corn was ready.  Miss those tomatoes and melons also.

Drilled holes and did a burn out on it...you don't need to see pics of that but HOLY CRAP how these things hold temp.   I am totally floored, i have the ET -732 in it now and  the barrel has very very little coals burning and it's sitting at 220 steady as can be.

Yes more pics please. I want to make one. Need more info.

OK, i did the burn out and decided to dry fit a few parts.

As you see i had to make sure the most IMPORTANT part fitted ok.

Hope you can see this ok but this is something i really like, the basket lifts up for grilling and searing...it's a couple of inches right below the cooking grate.

The next step is some sanding, cleaning it up, painting and assembling the parts.....Hopefully i'll have the first cook this weekend.

i have to ask. what are you going to use for dampers? i don't see a way to control the heat.

happy smoken.

I have 2 of these sliding vents...similar to how a Kamado vent works.    This is a pre-engineered drum smoker kit from Big Poppas Smokers that lets you smoke as well as grill and sear.....first class stainless steel parts.    I still have to wire brush and clean the drum up, paint it and then fully assemble it.   Hopefully Sunday i'll be doing some ribs on it.      I'm painting it the metalic silver and am making shelves that attach to the dolly. Lots of more work to go!

Oh i'm also  making the kettle lid to fit on it ...just for the times i want to use another cooking level. As soon as i find a donor lid i'll tackle that part.

ok now i see. to begin with i was thinking no control. i have a BGE which is the same thing. here is a link to my UDS build.http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/...divorced-smoke-chamber-for-amnps-lots-of-pics. it smokes great. holds temp well. i can't wait to see pics when you get finished. pics of the ribs too.

happy smoken.

Yea David i did lots of home work on this before i committed to it, including looking at your build.  Seeing how much everyone loved their uds made me do it.  The only way this build is different from other UDS's besides the vent controls is the extra position for the charcoal basket that allows you to lift it up to the cooking grate for grill/sear.
