A new meat store just opened where I am, one of the wholesalers that works with poultry plants such as Jennie O.  They have whole turkeys as well as cuts on sale for what seems to be cheap. Mainly 3 massive turkey legs for 5 bucks.  What do you guys think of that, does it sound like a good deal?  If it is I can see my smoker getting a lot busier in the near future!

I just looked up some stats.  Average weight of a turkey leg is 18 oz and right now the national average price per pound is $1.36.  Do some conversions and three legs should be $4.59.  So I would play $0.41 more than average price right now.  Still instead of buying the whole turkey 5 bucks seems to be a good deal.

This is easy, do you like turkey legs? Have you mastered the smoked turkey leg, cured and smoked?

How can you lose?

Sounds like a great deal if so.

I love cured smoked turkey legs, makes me just at really stupid when I get to waving them around. LOL Its food ya can play with!

That is not bad but stock up next month, Turkey will be Half that price...JJ

I know in the South we only see turkey around the holidays. I always put a couple in the freezer. And I never ever see thighs anymore..... I lub dem thighs!
And What's Up With That! A perfectly smoked or roasted Breast, 165°, is juicy but there is no better FLAVOR than a Thigh! Legs ar ok but I hate dealing with the Tendons and if to debone for other purposes the yield sucks... They are probably all getting processed into Turkey Ham and Bacon...JJ

Thighs have a single femur bone and no tendons. They are dork, opps I mean "dark" meat.  I fine it has a slightly different taste and texture.

I like turkey legs which I am getting closer to zeroing in on smoking. To get a good leg its curing with sweet cure, but now most will foil to get tender. I smoked mine low and slow last time and after 7 hours it was just starting to break down, but I still couldn't pull that "Nub" like you could when Pop smoked 'em. I am still learning though.

You don't know how many times I have had people tell me that they'll eat my breasts because they are always tender and juicy, but they don't eat white meat elsewhere.

I think maybe I like dark meat because Pop does. Mom and the baby Sis always got the white. wasn't till a few years back that I was informed that they too liked dark meat, they were just more polite. Naaaaa..... not baby sis, not as kids....LOL
