Wife drug me to the store with her yesterday and I happend to stumble across a sale on tri-tip. whole untrimmed for 2.77 a pound. so I picked up six of them to do some experimenting.

I usually use salt, pepper and Garlic but wanted to try something different as well as smoking them all night which I hadnt done before.

I rubbed one of them with the Traeger beef rub and the other with the traeger beef shake. Both were wrapped in plastic and set in the fridge a little past noon and removed from the fridge at about 9pm.

I fired up the treager at about 11pm and at 1130 placed the tips on using the smoke setting.

I checked on them at 630 am and the internal temp was 133 degrees. flipped them and let them set for an hour before turning up the smoker temp to 225. I pulled the meat when it reached a temp of 145* wrapped in foil, then a towel for an hour.

THe flaver was awesome. The meat very tender, but next time I will pull at 135*.

well the gremlins ate the one sliced in the photo for breakfast with some eggs and toast. I am really liking the the Traeger Pellet muncher. So easy to use and I was able to sleep all night without worrying about the meat.

Looks great, Mike! Nice job. It's not always a bad thing to go to the store with the wife, now is it? [IMG]

Great Q view, tip looks fantastic!!!!
Why the decision to pull off the tip at a temp of 135 instead of 145???
How long have you had yer Traeger???

I Like the meat a little more pink so I want to pull it a little earlier.

Mmmmmmm,...that does look moist, tender and tasty.....I agree with the earlier pull as well, if your going to slice it. It does seem to keep more of the natural flavors and juice in the meat. Still, great looking smoke!

    Thanks for sharing!

I thought it looked kinda new. I've had mine about 2 years and it sure has turned out some great smoke. Try the cherry pellets if you haven't already, they're my favorite so far and they turn out some really fantastic flavor.
I just got 2 bags each of onion and pecan to try out and they back ordered 2 bags of garlic.
Gonna do a roast beef this week and I'm thinkin of trying out the onion on that. [IMG]

Thanks for the kind words folks.

I haven't tried the Cherry yet, usually only Hickory, Mesquite or Pecan.
