This past weekend I decided to smoke a pork butt to make pulled pork. Prepared everything according to plan and started it off on my Masterbuilt Dual Fuel, using the propane burner with hickory and apple chunks for the smoke. After running flawlessly for about 2 hours, the flame on the burner went out, almost like the tank ran dry of LPG. I tried to relight it, and cranked up the regulator a little and the flame was like a torch for a few seconds then out again! The LPG tank is not empty, could this be caused by the burner or Venturi tube clogged up? FYI, my smoker had this issue about a month ago when I was going to do a tri tip. By the way, I quickly switched to Plan B and put the butt on my gas grill (set up for indirect heat) and got my AMPTS quickly lit with some hickory pellets. Things worked out well, might have to just junk the Masterbuilt.
Here's some QView:
Rubbed and ready to go.
About 5 hours on the grill.
All done, it was delicious.

Good save!

It's quite possible the Venturi is clogged. Could also be the regulator is shot. Vacuum out:blow out the Venturi and the burner. My regulator on my GOSM went bad and was doing what yours is. Get yourself a bayou classic needle valve and replace the regulator. With the needle valve installed I can run anywhere from 130-500+. Set your smokers control knob to high and control temps with the needle valve.

Dirtsailor, thanks for the info. I am using a Bayou Classic 0-30 psi adjustible regulator. I like the idea of the needle valve and regulator set up you are using, may switch to that after I give everything a good cleaning.

I'm betting on a bad regulator also. It sounds like it went wide open for a bit then the surge protector activated and shut down the gas flow.
