I was at a local restaurant supply place the other day and saw a 20 lb piece of beef that was labeled as Tri Tip.  Looked more like a brisket to me, didn't look anything like the normal Tri Tip I see at the grocery store.  is it normally a large cut that is further cut down by the butcher? If so, I'd like to try it as it was substantially less expensive that at the store.

Tri tips are usually in the 2-3.5 lb range each.  It was probably a bag o' tri tips.  My grocer sells them like that in a big vacuum bag that looks like the size of a small beef clod for a dollar cheaper per pound than the individually packaged tri tips.  They are usually untrimmed too.

I can't even find single tri-tips. I would probably start dancing around the grocery store if I saw a 20 lb bag of them!

if don't see one just ask as lots of places don't put the less sold cuts out or even cut them different and rename

Ya I just bought one of those today. About 18 lbs. It even has a fat cap[emoji]128516[/emoji]
Now I just gotta figure out what to do with it.
