The wife and I finally adopted another Jack Russell after losing ours of 16 years this past March. We rescued him from the local animal shelter and they believe he is 3 years old. I would've gotten one right away but my wife just couldn't handle it cause she missed her baby so much. Well we got real lucky as this dog is fantastic and my wife is completely in love with him.

Well since we got the new dog this weekend I felt like smoking or grilling something so went to the local Publix to see what was interesting and I couldn't believe my luck. Tri-Tip and it was on sale for $6.49 lb and I couldn't resist. It weighed in at 1.86 lbs which was perfect for the wife and I although Kino definitely was keeping an eye on it  when it came off the grill.

Went real simple with the seasoning. A little kosher salt, CBP, some granulated garlic powder, some onion powder and a little of Weber chicago steak seasoning. Wrapped in plastic wrap in the fridge for about 3 - 4 hours. Fired up the 18.5" silver with kingsford and set the grill up with a cool/hot zone. Put the Tri-Tip on for a good sear then moved to the cool side and let her go with a chunk of apple wood. Pulled it off at 130° and loosley tented with foil. While the Tri-Tip was resting grilled up some zuchini and squash with similar seasoning and a little evoo. Sauteed up some mushrooms in a little evoo and some unsalted butter and served with a salad and some Texas Toast Garlic bread sticks. It all came out awesome and Kino gave it 2 paws up!

    Thanks for looking.

    That looks delicious!

You just can't beat tri tip.

Publix around here only has them once in a while.

I'd buy them every week if they were available.

Heavy price on that tri tip but it sure turned out nice.  That is about the straightest grain I have seen on a trip, tho.  Sure made slicing it a lot easier.

Hope you took care of your smoking buddy.  He looks like he deserved an end piece.

    Good luck and good smoking.

Great looking TriTip - It amazes me the price folks pay out of CA. We get them regularly for $3.99 and I don't get that they don't have them available all over

    Nice looking partner too.

    Thanks guys!

Yeah Jacks are a handful if you don't keep them busy they will entertain themselves, which translates into trouble. He was definitely ready to chow on some Tri-Tip so I snuck him a taste or 2.

The grain on this was real straight and easy to slice. Different from the last few I've done. Definitely high priced even on sale. I'm just so glad to get them when I can that I usually don't even look at the price. I would love to be able to buy some at $3.99 lb.

Nice looking dog, and nice tri-tip! But when you start the thread out talking about your new dog, and then the very fist picture is of a big hunk of raw meat.... bad mental image! LOL

[IMG]  Yeah, I thought about that right after I posted Johnny. Didn't show a shot of the dog after the cook either so it would make you womder. I gotta admit he does look a little scared.
