If this is in the wrong area of the forum my apologies. I just bought a new 22" Weber 1-touch gold kettle and wanted to start grilling on it tonight. I got a quick question if one of you don't mind. How much charcoal should I use? I was guessing 1 weber chimney full. Is that about right?

Thanks in advance.

I would use a heaping full chimney full, moved to one side and spread out when ready....that's the way I almost always use mine...gives me an area opposite to keep the chicken warm while I grill the rest. Let us know how it turns out! (Pics would be good!)

If you are going to grill that much all in one evening you will need more that that. If the chicken has bones in it it will take at least 30 min slow cooking to get done.

Probably to late-- but for grilling vent wide open.I did some on my kettle last night(thighs) and i used R.O. lump and spread equal parts lump on either side of kettle and put thighs in middle and crisped them up over direct heat last 2-3 minutes a side.Took 35 minutes to get 165 internal.Used one chunk red oak one chunk cherry for smoke.
