Hello, SMF! As the thread title says, I'm a total noob to smoking. I'm a part-time farmer, trying to be as self-sufficient on food as possible. Since I just slaughtered a pig, and plan at least one more before the weather warms up, I need to get to smoking! I actually have some cured bacon in the grill, with a homemade Amaz-n type basket of hickory trying to get some flavor going. I hope to build a decent cold smoker to handle cased sausages, bacon and hams. This looks like the best source of experienced people on the web, so I hope to learn lots!
  2. Welcome. I am retired Army assigned to Ft Campbell three different times over my 22 year career. Good folks here with lots of knowledge.

Thanks! 16 years National Guard, 12 as an AGR (fulltime active Guard) supply sergeant. I'm about three hours north east of Ft. Campbell, in Harrodsburg. Did spend nine months at Campbell, mobilized as installation security while the 101st was bust invading Iraq, in 2003.

Just noticed you are in Huntsville. I used to go to a swapmeet down that way, in Toney. I was really into Pontiac Fiero's, and one of the best shops for them was the Fiero Factory there.

Thanks, all. I will be sure to utilize the search, I hate the forum noobs that come on, ask a question that has been answered a hundred times, then disappears.

Gary, its just cold here in Kentucky, at least today. Just survived a week of 16" of snow, and -22 temps.
