Hello all from Sandy,Utah. My name is Tom I'm 24 and live up in Sandy,Utah and i love to cook in every fashion, love to watch cooking channels and read the magazines and read up on other know how from people that enjoy all the different types of cooking that i do. As you all obviously must know i love to smoke meat duh otherwise i would'nt be on here i guess. I own a 40" Masterbuilt Electric Smoker with window, when i started smoking meats i started out with the Red Electric Egg shaped 6 in 1 smoker from Lowes thats about $50 and it served me really well over many years of cooking everything from beef to poultry and veggies. I decided to buy the 40" Masterbuilt w/window from Cabela's about 3 years ago when i went down there with my dad and i told him thats what i wanted for christmas so he let me pick one out and at that time the 40" was cheaper than the 30" and I thought it was a pretty good deal being only $260 at the time and I didnt want to get one of those auto puck feeder ones cuz that wouldve restricted me to only buying them from certain places of very few plus the types of wood and also not sure what other than wood there even made with, so even though i cant really use much more than wood chips that i just buy at lowes in little bags i thought this was a good fit and a nice upgrade from the little red egg, plus the smoker has a remote control and meat probe so me being into tech i love anything high tech so it was deffinately for me. Any way off that and alittle about me, at 15 i was diagnosed with cancer A.L.L Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and had to deal with that till about 18 or 19 going through growling treatments and being sick all the time then when i was 22 on january 9th 2012 i got diagnosed with the same cancer for a second time and since have been dealing with that but the difference this time around is the first time i went through alot of Kemo treatments (luckily no radiation for me at all) over 3 years but this time with the advances in medicine i opted to get a bone marrow transplant after about 4 months into my treatments which gave me a 95% chance of survival this time around rather than if i had choosen the kemo route again because that it is the second time ive had cancer i would of only had about a 40% chance of it not coming back for a third time. Plus with going throught with a transplant in May of last year i havent had to get any kemo at all since then just basic checkups every week then twice a week and so on and now im doing well just need to gain weight which is very difficult and next to impossible for me at the moment even though i eat everything possible and by no means is it health foods. But to keep busy over the years i ve loved to smoke meats dehydrate jerky and try to come up with new and different recipes to have family get togethers with me cooking and i like to make full menus for everyone too just to add to the experience. ive gotten quite good i think at smoking and perfecting some of the foods i smoke thanks in part to Jeff and his emails and his rub and sauce too. I really enjoy Pork ribs, brisket, and sausage mostly red meats not to big of white meats. I can cook jerky pretty well whether its a wet type of jerky meaning with somewhat of a sauce on it or a dry ground up jerky out of a jerky gun. the only thing i really havent perfected yet is how to keep it from drying out to much and also the basic tastes are pretty hard to. thats about it for me thanks TOM
