So I got some lump bamboo charcoal and wanted to see how hot and for how long it would burn.

Filled my basket, then dumped in to the chimney to get it burning.

    Seasoned some thighs with this.

Temps stayed around 380 for 45 mins.  Pulled the thighs then.  But kept watching the temps.  After 1 hour the bamboo was all burn up.

I used apple for the smoke.

    Finished pics.

    They tasted awesome.

    Thanks for lookin.

Not much if any.  I added apple to it and still had lite smoke flavor.

Is it commercially made? I wonder if trey make briquettes out of it? I'd think an all natural bamboo briquette would be pretty good. As fast as the stuff grows it would certainly be cheap to produce.

    Thanks David.
It isnt yet.  A guy sent it to me to try.  He has a bamboo farm and makes it.  He wants to start selling it if he gets good reviews from the people he sent samples to.
    Thanks.   It was very good.

    That looks really good!

My grandpa had some giant bamboo clumps near his house. They were 40 to 50 feet tall and six inches in diameter! That house isn't in the family anymore but I bet the bamboo is still there. Might have to drive by... ;)
