So my Taylor digital w/line probe crapped out.

I really don't know if I want to take the chance with another wire type unit such as the Maverick ET 732 and am thinking about getting a Thermapen instead.

In looking at Thermoworks website, I see a much cheaper, non folding handheld RT600C which is only $20 compared to the Thermapen at just about $100.

Anyone have the RT600C and if so, what are your thoughts?

Also like to hear comments on the wire type remote unit like the Maverick ET 732 vs. just using the Thermapen. Anytime I am smoking, I am fairly close to the smoker, so while the remote is nice, its not absolutely needed.

No but I use the RT301WA.. It's fast and accurate

I trust my Maverick but have another Mav to back that up.. The thermo backs them both up.

The Thermopen is a great piece of equipment that simply does not seem to have anything that goes wrong with it, even after years of use.  I like it that the potentially delicate point folds away.  If you want a Thermoworks product, this is in my opinion worth the price.  I have not tried the other products that you are inquiring about.  I wonder if anyone out there has a thermapen and one of the others.  It would be interesting to see how they correlate when measuring temperature.
