Just bought the wife a purple ThermoPop as an early Christmas, or more like a Thanksgiving present. I have a CDN instant read I use for cooking so it's going to be interesting to compare speed and accuracy between the two.

Post up a review when you have had a chance to work with it?

Good luck and good smoking.
Thanks, and will do, Venture. My wife will be the one using it, primarily in the kitchen. I'll get a chance to experiment with it and will report back my and her experiences. I also have a CDN instant read which I like a lot, as well as a Maverick ET-733. For grilling, I've got the Maverick LT03 Surface Laser themo gun. The last three work really great but I've read Thermoworks is about as good as it gets. I'll be interested to find out.

So the wife made some mini meatloaves last night and the directions called for checking the IT of the each meatloaf to confirm it was 160*. She stuck the probe in and got a reading instantly--160 spot on. However, when I checked the other two I got readings of about 199* so I'm not sure what happened. She brought them to the table and I checked one of the meatloaves by sticking the probe in the side of it and got 160*.

I'm cooking cheeseburgers tonight and we'll give the ThermoPop another try and I'm also going to compare it with my CDN, which is just as fast and has been calibrated.

With the meatloaves?  Not surprising to get different readings.

Not sure a cheeseburger would be a good test.

Did you do a boiling water test and check them against a therm you trust?

My experience has been that most reputable therms I have tried have been within 1 percent.

Good luck and good smoking.

I agree about the meatloaves but all 3 were cooked perfectly. You're right again about the cheeseburgers. 1/4 pounders are too thin to check with a therm probe so I just time 'em knowing that my wife likes no mooing in her beef.

I plan to do the boiling water test soon. The manual also shows how to do the ice water test as well. I think that it's great that the owner manual is a manual, a catalog, and has recipe tips. I've never seen the like.
