I've purchased a handful of thermometers over the last year of various complexities and prices. The most expensive was... ThermoWorks: TW8060 Kit, Includes TW8060 Thermocouple Meter with alarm, 113-177 Smokehouse probe with SST over braid cable, and 113-041 Crocodile Clip probe $141 The most affordable was the wireless from Target, a hand held digital. I also invested in a wireless digital from Target, about $35. The problem with the ThermoWorks and wireless are the damn things don't indicate an accurate temperature. Not that this means much but I'm an engineer and have worked with digital thermometers many a time in college lab classes. WE built our own.. I checked both of these devices with ice water and boiling water, the temp out puts are EXTREMLY inconsistant and off spec. I would be fine with +/- 2-4 degrees but I'm seeing much larger spans. I've been using these to monitor my smoker temp and meat temp. BBQ requires pretty precise temp ranges for consistantly delicous products. Has anyone else experienced this? What is working out there?
