My name is Joe from outside Austin Texas looking into diving in head first into the smoking realm. I am looking for an offset in the 1-1.5k range to practice the art of cooking low and slow. Any info for pit or pit upgrades for a starter who is looking to start a life long hobby will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Good morning and welcome to the forum, from a cold and wet day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Welcome to the site Joe.  If you can figure how much meat you are going to need space on the smoker for on a regular basis it may help in narrowing your search.  If it was me I would start reading reviews on this and other sites.

Happy hunting.

That's a nice size budget you should be able to find a real nice smoker.  Take a look on Craig's list sometimes you can find a high dollar smoker pretty cheap.
