Temp controlers

  1. Hey yall

I know I am new, but can a new category on controllers be added ? I personally like mesa boards and EMC based operating systems. Why buy what you can build ? I mean anything IO boards are cheap and readily available.

    Just saying

How about a step by step building your controller, for us dolts out here that know nothing...

Dave do not put yourself down !! - you are the oracle when it comes to smoking and curing and you know it [IMG]. There is not much about it that you do not know.

Building a controller is actually quite simple. You just need to buy an STC-1000  digital temperature controller and connect a heater to it - then Bobs your uncle. The link shows a 220-240v controller but they come in 110v too

I am including one, along with a humidity controller in a curing cabinet project at the moment.

    Give it a go
  4. That was my thought exactly. I have no issues building one on the forums that will run from your laptop to regulate box temp and monitor meat probes. I like mesa boards because I can do anything with them, and they are cheap. I would love to group this as I do not know everything. With a the right board we can use electric heat or servo controlled intermittent ignition gas heat. Now mesa boards are made for motion control, but the boards are only looking for values input from sensors. and software responds as you write it to. now a 7137 is 79.00 USD and has 8 output modules and 16 inputs.

What in the hell are y'all talking about? I thought temp control was the size of the split that i throw in the FB. I've never thought about attaching wires to a piece of wood, but if that works rot y'all, go for it.
  6. Well how else do you know how hot your wood is getting? Even my wifes bra has a wire.

When I see flames, I know the wood is hot. When my CC is at the temp I want, I know the wood is hot enough.

As for the other situation, I'll take your word for it. I don't think that's anything that we need to check out.
  8. Dave I had no idea that the STC-1000 was so cheap. Thank you for the new knowledge. I still like my mesa boards tho.

Here in the UK the STC-1000s are about £10 to £12 including shipping. These units are not CE Approved though in Europe - I am not sure what, if any, certification they have in the USA. The bottom line is that they work and for personal use they are fine. I don't think you would be able to include them as part of any commercial product though - at least not in Europe.
  10. I have ordered 3 to add as truck stock in my service truck. Most thermostats for reach in reefers are double the price, and if its not a warranty call i think these will allow me to have a universal fit for all that enhances my first time fix ratio.
