I'm a newbee smoker and have an ECB with mods and have been succesful on it but am thinking i need a wood burner.charcoal is expensive but good wood is pretty much free for me.so what if any would be a good smoker for say under $300.

if he has not blown himself up yet..you should check in with smok'n steve..he makes all kinds of stick burners even baby ones that look awesome..

Couldn't you use a Chargriller for wood also? I was looking at one in Lowe's and I picked up the manuals and did some reading. They were saying that the firebox would accomodate 16" sticks of wood for fuel.

Is that not the case? Do people not burn wood in those?

I started with an ECB,and moved up to a Chargriller snp with side fire box,and have only used wood on it,works just fine, get another thermometer the one fitted is as much use as a chocolate kettle

many folks here use the Chargriller SnP.........and the Silver......for under 300 bux, can't go wrong.......you want summin to last for years and years, you will spend more than 300 bux..........but the SnP, is a nice entry into a stickburner........but it will need mods also, and it has a bit steeper learning curve than the ecb did..........
