need opinions on a tank for a reverse smoker trailer build. can get my hands on the following:
1. 200 gallon propane tank -about 32" dia. and 4 1/2 - 5 ' long. $ 100.00

2. diesel tank - about 30" dia. and 7 1/2 foot long - $ 0.00

any body ever used a diesel tank for a build? just not sure about cooking in something that stored diesel fuel.. guess it's no worst than a propane tank?

Well at only 2 inches smaller in diameter and 3 feet longer plus free, I would go with the diesel tank. Unless you would get better smoke/air flow in the other, without images can't tell how the diesel tank is shaped. Just my 2 cents.

By the way what part of Cajun Land are you from!!

Deisel tank...
for free, take it home, cut it open and burn it... if you decide then its not the right guage, didn't clean up like you thought etc, you can still go to the propane!!! with the extra footage, you will have lots more space to cook on the deisel.
Propane at 32x60 inches=13.3 sq ft of cooking surface
Deisel at 30x 90 inches=18.75 sq ft of cooking surface

extra 5 ft is about 5 pork butts or about 50LBS!!!

thanks, i'm worried about the gauge of metal, just doesn't seem very thick. i know the propane would be plenty thick enough.

Yep the diesal tank is more in the price range. Now you can spend some of your saving on all the other stuff that you need to create this new smoker. It look like it will be pretty easy to load this thing it being in the air also.

My guess it would be 3/16" based on the size and if it is only 1/8", just increase the fire box to ensure you will be able to keep the heat for it. Good find and when you build it please share the pictures with us all.

well, the size propane tank i was looking at fell through. so i ended up getting a 125 gallon in really good shape for 100.00. i think i'll do something with that first then always have the diesel tank for project #2! thanks for the input. as soon as i get all material together i will start and keep you posted . thanks again
