After seeing Butts on sale this week I decided that this sunday (today) would be my first shot at it. Qview below

got up at 7 and fired up the smoker. Mixed lump and cherry wood.

I'm going to use the "basic pulled pork" sticky thread here and foil around 165. bring them up to around 200 and then into the cooler.

more to come.

Go bucks

Dan

side note: check out these bad ass high temp gloves I picked up

Temp locked in for well over an hour now.

I still have yet to put my gasket robe seal on but maybe I got lucky with my buy. This thing holds temps great once it's dialed in.

Can't wait for the later pictures. If you don't know it already from reading other posts, be very patient with those butts. You're going to more than likely experience that temperature hang (plateau) when you get around 145 - 155 degrees, maybe a tad higher. If you are confident your internal probes are calibrated and working properly, just be patient and you'll be rewarded with some wonderful stuff later.

Keep those pictures coming!

Butts are really prone to the dreaded stall and it could last for hours. So just wait it out and it will get to temp. Let it be and plan a really long smoke because you can always towel it and throw it in a cooler and keep it hot for hours.

might as well fire up one of these while I'm at it.

Love me some CAO cigars.

(side note, one of the butts is reading almost 15 degrees hotter than the other.. hmmm)

at 165 and into the foil. man they look good. More pics soon.

Butts are in the cooler :)

the gloves came from here

enter 5399T2 in the search box

here is a pic of them with the insulated insides pulled out. I love these things, you can grab anything right off the grill and not feel the heat at all.

and when you're done, you just wash them off in the sink.

all done, and stuffed to the gills.

here they are after 6.5 hours in the smoke and 2 hours rest (took them up to 203F before taking them out of the smoker)

(loving the bark on the bilbo rub one in the front)

Here they are pulled for sandwiches
