Suggestion to help with spam

I can block a member and not see their posts in a thread, great.  But why dont you change the function to include any posts by that same member in the "new posts" section.  That way those posts will be blocked and not visible to me.  That why I wont see a stream of BS when I sign on.

And go even one further.  If at least 3 people block a user within a 1 hour time frame, then that user is unable to post anything until a mod has had time to review what the user was posting and decide to perma-ban or not.

What do you think?  That way the community can self regulate.

It's out of control this AM again.  It would be so easy for 3 community members to block this tool until a mod signs on and has time to review the ban.  Seriously guy, lets do this.  The spam is killing this site.

you can beat the spam by only allowing 1 new thread per X amount of minutes.. no real person will complain about having to wait a few extra minutes to post a new thread

unless the moderators like deleting hundreds of post that a bot doesn't even break a sweat making

Though this is only a bandage, I like mummel's idea of when you block someone, you block all of that person's posts.

There are 8 SuperMods and 4 Administrators with the power to Ban rude members and Spam. They ALL spend lots of time cleaning up and this current spam issue is a well known and researched problem. The fix will come when Huddler, the site designer, gets a handle on it. This is not the first powerful Spam Bot that has hit the site, all previous problems fixed, and with Spamming technology developing faster than fixes, will not be the last. We encourage all members to be patient...This too shall pass...JJ

On a temporary basis until Huddler or whomever comes up with a solution, have a "Spam Squad" along with admins and mods to help deal with the situation?

I don't know if this system with lock out a user after 3 Blocks. To add that feature would take longer than finding a fix.

Unfortunately there is not the ability to give a bunch of members the ability to " just " delete the spam without including all the other Mod/Super Mod/Admin, capabilities.

Would be like giving 100 guys the ability to change the temp on your smoker or do anything they want to the meat from their home. Can you trust they will only make a change to the temp If and Only If, the smoker bursts into flames? Mods etc., are not always perfect but we all are highly trusted to do the right thing and not abuse the power...JJ

LOL, But seriously. Why not more mods? Especially some of us who work nights and are awake when these attacks start.
