Finally did the stack mod. Working good so far. Thanks Texas Hunter for the idea.

Also ordred up a convection plate. This with the stack mod is making a big difference. I'm less than 10 degrees across the grate now. Thanks everyone for all the great ideas.

that heat plate helps alot, the stack mod didnt help mine any.
my smoker is about like like yours,my fire box is on the other end.
Good luck with it, you may add a few fire bricks at the bottem of the cooking chamber, that is the only mod mine has, it came with the heat diverder

Nice mod, glad it's working for you. Keep it thin and blue.

Hey NWS, cool convection plate. I have the same smoker as you do, did you get the convection plate from Brinkmann or somewhere else? Love to get one for my rig to replace the bent up oven liner I'm using for a baffle now.

Just getting back online here. Thanks smokebuzz for hooking him up. Yep, I got it from Horizon.

Really nice folks to deal with. Ask for Angie in the office. She'll know just what you need. Taz, feel free to send me a PM if you want to discuss any particulars.

For anyone who has ordered the convection plate from Horizon, did you order the 16" convection plate for the Horizon smoker or the convection plate that fits the OK Joe?

Thanks for your help.
