I have been teetering on the edge of the smoking cliff and my Father's Day present will push me over the edge!  I am now in the market for a smoker...I have researched enough to believe that an electric smoker is what I want to start off with.  I like the Masterbuilt 30" electric...will that be large enough for a "starter" smoker?  I know that the ME40 is quite popular here but wondered if I should start smaller (and save some of the $$$ to spend on meats and ingredients).  Any thoughts?  I'm excited to be part of the community!

Welcome to the forums!  Glad you've joined us.  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastimes...grilling, smoking, and curing great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask any time you need help and you'll get plenty!

There're lots of members here who use MES, both 30 and 40.  I used to have a 40 myself.  IMHO, if you can afford the extra money for the 40", get the bigger one.  You'll be glad you have the extra room.   But they are both great rigs, and you'll put out some great Que on either one!

Will full slabs of spare ribs fit in the 30"? That and a full turkey are what are making me consider the larger one.
