My AWESOME sister shared a BBQ link on Facebook today for Beer Can Burgers. So, I had to make it my way.....

Enjoy the ride.... we enjoyed the meal.

Burger:

80/20 Burger  Filled with Cheddar Cheese, Caramelized Onion, Bacon and BBQ Sauce

Wrapped in Bacon

Topped with Dill Pickle Chips, Lettuce and BBQ Sauce

On a Potato Bun

With Baked Beans and Tator Tots

I caramelized some onions with bacon pieces while I prepped the burgers.

I seasoned the beef (1 1/2#) with some of my Top Secret Seasoning.

All I will say is it has a base of SPOG....

Portioned out 5 portions.

Molded the pocket with my soda can (clean them first, you never know what has crawled on them in the wear-house), you can use a beer can or other can if you prefer.

After pocket is made.

In the link she shared they used 1 piece of bacon. Well 1 would not completely wrap the burger, so I used 2 and held them in place with a couple tooth picks.

Onions and bacon caramelized and draining off the excess fat. I mixed a little BBQ sauce with them before adding to the burger.

Fresh grated cheddar cheese.

A small pinch in the bottom of the well.

Then a liberal amount of bacon, onion and BBQ sauce mixture.

Topped with more cheese.

Into smoker at 300*F till bacon is crisp and cheese is golden brown. Approx 1hr.

I ran into a small issue when cooking. I wanted to turn up the heat to crisp the bacon more. Well by adding more air it caused a flare up and got some dirty smoke. So be patient and allow the heat to do its thing. Do not try to rush it.

Served with some baked beans and tator tots.

Those look amazing! I saw something similar very recently. I can't remember if it was Jeff's recipe or Weber or Kingsford, but whoever it was, it looked great! You did a fantastic job!
