Soap Making

Hello all,

I was not sure where to put this so I figured General discussion would work.

I have a question, My wife would like to make her own soap but we do not know where to start or how to do so. I figured with so many people here that like to make their own things maybe some would would be able to help her out.

Any suggestion, recipes would be appreciated.

This is going to sound stupid or you can just laugh it off as dumb coonass, but........Our local college at one time had a soap making course. I knew a lovely young lady who took the course and was thrilled with it. I don't know if its still around but you might check in your extended educational systen of a nearby school. It as one of those artsy kinda courses. Like basic basketweaving 101.

Just a thought.

SOAP ??? I don't even know how long that would have to be in the smoker... let alone the IT to know when to pull it out of the smoker... any idea what would be a good cooking temp for that ? I do know I didn't like the taste of it when I swore and got my mouth washed out with it... doubt it would be any better after smoked ether... :biggrin:

I think it needs something a little mild like apple or peach wood and don't take it over 140* or it will start to dry out!

Link..on a serious side of this question.  There are some classes you can take online.  Also...there are some really great books at Amazon on the topic too.

Sometimes you can find a place locally that will teach lessons. Get her to ask some of her Gal pals and she might be surprised to find that some of them want to do it also.

Soap making is neat.  BUT...the pans/pots and utensils used...can NOT be used for food things ever again.  Just an FYI.

Probably Pintrest....there are loads of recipes for that on the site.

The wife and I can help ya out in that department.  We make roughly 5 thousand bars a year and over 50 different scents with lots of colorful and swirled bars that we sell at craft shows all over S.W. Mo.
