Nothing wrong with that.

I think that's the key right there. As long as you're making progress that you are happy with then keep on thinking. If it seems at some point that you are chasing your tail and getting more frustrated, then you may have to step back and not overthink it. (I fall into that trap sometimes.

Most of all, have fun with it.

Due to the design of the firebox, the basket needs to be high- higher than the stock grate level, since anything but the basic smokes will create enough ash to begin to choke it out. My replacement design took this into account, and I can report it is working better than expected.
Here's 2 pics to give you an idea. It is 3 inches tall with 1" angle iron bracing:

Here it is sitting inside the firebox. You can see by the angle of view that there is more clearance underneath, and that has led to real good clean burns.

Be glad to provide dimensions if ya want, just PM me.

Yes, I do understand your 90 degree mandrel pipe extension only too well. That is exactly what I wanted, however was not able to neither draw nor explain what I needed to the satisfaction of the muffler guy without bringing in my unit to the shop, so I settled for the straight extension. No worries, I had no real use for the warmer rack~ sounds like you do. Go for it and send pics!

Remember that more than half the fun is in the journey!

Thanks rivet, i appreciate the help. Im going to pick up some mandrel bent tubing(possibly 3") and weld it myself. Im sure i can figure out better than the shops locally. Ill PM you
