I have about 25 jalapeno's that I would like to smoke this weekend. I would like to start them on my smoker then transfer to a dehydrator to finish. Is there an approxmate time that I need to leave them on the smoker and at what temp to achieve the best results?

I thought that was your direction. I have never done it but. I would probably open them up. Than smoke for an hour or two. Good luck and let us know the results.

when I did mine I halved them and left the seeds in , some things I have read say take the seeds out , I smoked them at 225 with the door to my MES barely open probably for about an hour or so and then I finished drying them in a tabletop convection oven that I use for making jerky . They shrivel up ALOT . I used some of my ground up peppers last night on a couple of chicken patties .

I was thinkig about halving and leaving the seeds thinking it may cut down on the smoking/drying time. i'll give it a shot this weekend and see how they turn out.

Thanks for the info.

I would halve but if you are looking to do a finer powder like a chili powder then the seeds should come out. If you are doing a flake pepper like a chile pice or the flake pepper that you would use on pizza, then seeds in would be fine.

When I did my harvest last year, I smoked jalapenos and habaneros for 1-2 hours at about 225 degrees. Then I put em in the dehydrator until they were nice and crispy. Then ran everything though my coffee grinder until it was as fine as I could get it. If I remember correctly, I halved the peppers, removed the seeds, but left the rest of the stuff in there. It was HOT, but in an AWESOME way!!!!

I think I will half them and smoke for a couple of yours as TNDawg said and will transfer to my dehydrator. I have some habanero plants but no peppers yet. I want to smoke those and grind into a powder.
thanks for the info.
