Hi,

I used the minion method (filled the ring with kingsford, then added 1/2 lit chimney) with my WSM and after about 8 hours, I had to replenish the charcoal. The outside temp was 25f at the start and mid 40s (very light wind) later in the day. Side note: my temp was 225ish so that was good. Is that normal?

All normal. If you're looking for some more efficiency, get yourself a welding blanket to wrap your WSM. This will act as a wind-break and insulation and your charcoal will go much further.

Thanks for the responses. I'm a noob, so just wanted to be sure I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Nah for cold weather as I learned with the same concern you had 225 seems to be normal.

Sounds like you have it all figured out. I'm in Florida so it's hard for me to comment on those conditions. My son is in Kansas & he had to build a shed to put his smokers in with a space heater to keep the temps up.
