    Hey everyone,

My name is Kyle. I am a student at Western Washington U in Bellingham, WA. That's close to Canada.

I'm a food freak. I'm fairly decent at Thai and Chinese cuisines, working on Korean (the asian theme is cause it's cheap to cook and fairly healthy), and some Southern cuisine (I visited LSU because they offered me a scholarship. Didn't attend there, but during my visit I was in food heaven). Smoking is next on my list :).

I love experimenting with flavors, moving away from home was awesome in one way because I get to try a lot of different cooking styles without making my poor mom deal with the chaos my cooking causes =P. I've been known to set off a few smoke detectors...

... Which actually brings me to my next question. I live in an apartment complex, and we're allowed to have smokers... but not use them. I guess we have sprinklers on the decks, which is a big bummer. This may seem like a dumb question, cause it is, but how much smoke is released from a smoker? Since I figure that'll be the obvious, what are the opinions on indoor smokers, and what should I look for?

Thanks! I'll be searching the forum for this anyways, but I wanted to start a thread saying Hi before bed, and since you're already reading this... =P

Welcome to the forum!! Have you thought about using a fan about a foot off the top of the smoker to vent/blow the smoke away from the ceiling? Might work, might not.

Welcome aboard Kyle, glad to have you.

Pretty much any smoker is going to produce a decent amount of smoke when you first light up, unless you are using a pre-burn barrel which if they don't allow smokers odds are you aren't gonna get away with that either. Remember the thin blue smoke is your goal.

I am not real sure why they allow you to have them but not use them, maybe ask them if there is a designated area where you can use them. I know why you can't use them on your hazard, but why then do they allow you to have it, I would ask management.

As far as indoor smokers I have zero experience with them so I am no help there, but I can not even imagine wanting to smoke indoors, I have moved my pit into my workshop during a rain storm and I just cant imagine my wife would ever let me do that in the house [IMG]

    Good Luck and Happy Smokes

PS the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask

    Thanks for the welcome guys!

I just talked to my mom, turns out she wants a smoker too. So I think we're going to buy a portable one and bring it outside - I move back home for the summer in two weeks, so I will get to try it out and see how things go.

We can store them on the deck, but we have to move them to ground to actually do anything with them. I live in an area where it is nice September, October, May, and June... then I go south. Otherwise, our nights get below freezing somewhat regularly. I'm tough, but I'd be smoking the food out in the open and so I'd have to be with it the entire time, and I have no desire to spend 6+ hours in the cold =P. I do like the fan idea, actually, may need to see if I can get that to work. Thanks.
