Smoking a Pork Shoulder in the cold wind today

  1. Haven't visited the forum in awhile, my apologizes. Wife uses the laptop for school most of the time (she's A LOT smarter, not to mention prettier, than me) and I hate using the phone for websites.

Decided to do a pork shoulder today, even though it's 40° and COLD wind outside!

    Just over 9lb

Potatoes on the bottom rack (just regular white, all I had) rubbed with oil and a little kosher salt. I had some leftover firm tofu I decided to toss on too. We'll see...

I'm using sand in the water pan, instead of water, for the first time today. It seems to be helping keep the heat up, even in the cold wind, I'm getting about 215°. With water, on a warm calm day, I have trouble getting above that!

I'm probably going to finish wrapped in foil in the oven, but it will still be delish!

It looks good so far. I use sand as well.

Looking good !, Keep us posted.
  5. It was left over an I had no other use for it. (I cook alot of Asian) They sell it in the Asian market, so what the heck, give it a shot! I'll post if I like it or throw it out [IMG]
  6. Throw it my way if you must!

    Happy smoken.

  7. Actually, it didn't come out all that bad. Might be good in a stir fry with some hot, spicy sauce.
  8. About 8pm last it was all done. 12hrs, not bad.

    Bone slipped right out!

It was DELISH! The potato skin was tough, but the inside was nice smoke flavor. The pork, well, there are only 2 of us, my wife and me, and there WON'T be any leftovers going to the dogs!

    Thanks for looking
