Smokin in the snow

    I have a masterbuilt 7 in 1 have had for about 2 years but am thinking of getting a Bradley digital smoker any comments good bad or otherwise would be appreciated. Smoked a prime rib for Christmas it turned out amazing. Look forward to learning alot more on this site.

    Welcome to SMF! Smoking a prime takes some balls... well done! I'd love to, but...well, let us just say my better half disagrees.

    dunno much about the Bradley...I'm a ECB charcoal soon to be a hybrid stickburner kinda guy. I WILL have electricity for a light and running the controls tho ;{)

    Welcome to SMF! Bradley's are supposed to be good smokers. Like Rich said I don't know much about them though, a little out of my price range.

    I do know about pellet smokers, though..........and that is about it. [​IMG]

    It's always nice to have another Big Red fan in the mix.

    The Bradley's look good, but I don't know of anyone that has one. I built my own smoker. It works similarly to the Bradley. Main box for holding the meats with it's own heat source, regulated by a themostat. A smoke chamber with a hotplate and skillet, ans ducting to allow the smoke to flow into the main chamber.     A friend of mine purchased a Bradley a year ago and to date has not used it. About a month ago he asked me if I would season it for him, break it in on some venison bacon and tell him my thoughts on it.

    It was a cold North Dakota day, 20º if remember right. Anyways I ran it side by side with my smaller Masterbuilt and the Bradley would not come to temp and seemed to running 25º lower than my Masterbuilt.

    My other thoughts on the Bradley are if you are going to be smoking alot the wood briquttes will get expensive, they go through one every 20 minutes from what I could tell. With that said, after using it I could not see how you could control the amount of smoke because each wood briguette is identical; unless you were to break one in half and just run 1/2 of a briquette through at a time.

    Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking the Bradley's, they are very nice smokers. This was just my observations from smoking side by side with a Masterbuilt.

    Howdy Huskerfarmer,
    I personally don't own one of these but checked with a couple of others that have them prior to me purchasing my first smoker which was a GOSM. Got it at Walmart for a song on sale. Smokers in our part of the country are rare and the selection not great unless you do some hunting for them. The Bradley is a very popular smoker around here and a friend from down the street bought two of them mind you they are not the digital unit. He's probrably made 10 batches of jerky to date and has had difficulty with maintianing consistency in smoke flavour (either too much or not enough) and tenderness or texture of meat. It is a smoker that does not recover that fast once the door has been opened and is also somewhat small. That was his reasoning for buying two. The pucks are not cheap by any means of the imagination....not too sure about this one...don't want to slam it but I would maybe shop around for more info. I am glad I went with the one I have as he came over and is thinking of selling his and going to a GOSM as well. His results may not be the fault of the smoker as we all know it can be a different dog on a different day while smoking. He is however reluctant to put in higher priced or quality of meats until he gets a handle on his units. I was going to buy one and am glad that I didn't as I think there maybe a better quality smoker out there for the same amount of money or maybe even less....just my opinion....maybe others out there that own these units can help you out a little more.
