Just finished this smoker the first one I've ever built. Started the first fire yesterday and losing a lot of smoke and heat around the doors and frames. I'm gonna seal up around the frames with fireclay and mortar. Does anyone know anything that would make a good insulated seal between the doors and doorframes?

More info is needed. I don't know if it is brick or steel or wood. A pic would be nice. I see this is your first post. When you get a chance will you drop by roll call so everyone can give you a proper SMF

Nice looking smoker!

The fireproof rope is a solution.Just a matter of how you are getting it to stick to door & how it sits against frame to give you best seal.

We have a premix putty here for sealing joints on pot belly stoves & the like.

Agreed, very nice smoker. You can get the robe as thin as 1/8in.   Its the same stuff you would buy for a wood stove door.  Your local hardware should have what you need.

I don't have any type of seal around my doors.  They are metal to metal.  If I get smoke out the doors I open the top damper more.  That way I know the smoke is moving freely and not becoming stale in the chamber.
