A good pressure washing and you might have you one fine smoker. Now I would recommend that you use an electric burner for a heat source. Then you could build a small raised place for your chips and you'll be smoking.
 
its charcoal ....... not real sure, i have no experience smoking......... my dad used it to make beef jerky and he smoked a few other things ......nothing major though
