Hi,

I have the above model, picked it up at a garage sale last week. Here is the exact writeup...

http://www.brinkmann.net/Shop/Detail.aspx?category=Outdoor+Cooking&subcategory=C harcoal+Smokers+%26+Grills&sku=810-5305-S&series=OUT-1001-B&seriesname=Smoke'N%20Grill%20Charcoal&id=289

Anyway, I noticed the top cover does NOT have a damper for air. I see where the top cover has a good inch or two gap around the top of the smoker. Will the smoke escaping around the lid be enough of a vent for the exit damper?

Thank you,

Brian

HI Brian ...yes the smoke escapes arond the dome lid ... quite well ... nothing to worry about there.
Have fun with it and don't be afraid to ask more questions ...

Found this in Brinkman's FAQs;

Why does the lid to my smoker fit loosely?

The Brinkmann Smoker is designed with a 1/2" gap to facilitate airflow during the smoking process. I have an older Brinkmann smoker, but a brand new propane tank. Are they compatible? Yes. The older model Brinkmann smokers are still compatible with new propane tanks.

Out of curiosity ... how much did it cost you and in what condition?

Condition, needs a heck of a scrubbing, it has a few years of "build up"/brown gunk on the outside. No dents or major dings. Hey it's stainless steel though so it should clean up nicely.

$10 at a garage sale. I was looking for a friend as he is starting to get into smoking. They had two so I thought what the heck for the price.

I think it goes on Brinkmann's site for $169 US.

Been a while since I have charcoal smoked, been using a GOSM lately as I had "neighbor" problems. However I noticed the two sets that complained, a nice maintenance person spilled the beans, have moved so I am "testing" the waters. I had complaints every time I smoked with my offset ECB (I ended up selling it). It turned out they were bitching about the chimney starter of all things 8-), go figure. They were stating it created an 'intense" black smoke for elongated periods. I digress though.

Anyway I can't wait. Something small for one brisket or a couple of butts.

Take care,

Brian

That was a heck of a deal ... don't mind a little elbow grease when you save that kind of money ...eh?
Never seen a stainless ECB offered anywhere here!
Personally, I don't like fooling around with charcoal ... that is why I converted mine to propane, works great! ...no muss...no fuss.
If you are interested in conversion, check out the "propane smokers" in forum, and 'propane smoker modifications',mine is in there.

Enjoy your new (old) smoker!

Thanks Paul. Elbow grease is the plan. I am hoping to use it next smoke but work has been sooo hectic it will probably be a smoke or two before I am ready.

Oh, I do need to buy a water pan for it. Brinkmann has it listed for $14.95 plus $6 in shipping. I am hoping I can use a metal mixing bowl instead. The second unit had a water pan but I let my friend have it so he was ready to roll.

Take care,

Brian

your neighbors must be close by. my neighbors catch a sniff of smoke from my house (burning wood is a very unusual and seldom smell in my neck of the woods), they start to talk to me REEEAAAL nice.....cuz I'll throw them some food!

All I can say is....condo. Dam regulations and by-laws. We are putting our unit up for sale spring next year and moving to the country. I can't wait, buying this (condo) was a big mistake.

Take care,

Brian

Brian ... are you saying you can't even use your ECB at your condo?

I was thinking about moving into one ... will definitely check out the rules and BS first.

I don't care too much where I live, but how I live!
