Bowling Green Oh
Look'n for some info here. We're having a cousin's reunion party in June and are thinking of smoking some butt for pulled pork sammies along with a few sides. After doing a count of how many guest will show up (35) we're wondering how many lbs. of butt to smoke. So if you have experience providing pulled pork for 35 people please give us your input of how many lbs. to put in the smoker. If it's too big a job I may hire it out.

Also, thinking of doing the smoke the day b4 upto an internal temp of 165 degrees and finishing it off the next day in the oven. Seems like cheating to me as I've never finished off this way b4. I need to be available the day of the party as a host. These folks are my wife's cousins and I know only her 7 sibs and 2 or 3 of the cousin. Any words of wisdom :) would be greatly appreciated.

Keith since its family I would figure a 1/2 lb per person cooked weight. This would be 34 lbs of raw butts. I would pre-cook but take it all the way to finished temp and pull it save the juice on the side. De-fat the juice and store it the morning of the party add the juice and some finishing sauce and re-heat.

What Piney said, you really dont want to divide cooking times. go all the way and reheat in the next day.

Got one of those myself in june. bout 40 peep's. im doin Butts, rib's, abt's and dutche's beans. and maby a brisket. i'll be up very early as the wife works the day b4 and have to do an all day smoke, sun up to sundown.

Gotta agree with the above. Cook all the way, shred and save. Easier to reheat than finish up after it's cooled off.

Thanks for the good info as always Pineywoods, thats what I was looking for.

Good luck with your gig dirtman and thanks for your input.

Yup, I've had company sitting and waiting on dinner until a few decide to "grab something on the way home" cause the meat took longer than predicted.

Good luck and be sure to give us an update as to how it goes.

May the Smoke be with you...always.
