Wanting to convert an old wood shed into a smokehouse. I would basically be using the shell of the shed but was wondering what I need to do on the inside to make it viable. It's built with treated lumber so I was wondering what I need to do on the inside to prevent contamination? Would I have to line the entire inside with fire brick or untreated cedar... I was thinking of lining it with heavy duty plastic but that would obviously eliminate the opportunity to use hot smoke... any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks

Your going to want to line it with something to keep the heat from releasing the chemicals in the treated Lumber.....

I lined the inside of mine with flashing then closed up

every seam with Permatex red.

But I don't like that treated wood anywhere near

food especially mixed with heat.

The stuff is poison, in particular the older wood.

Methinks you need to talk to someone that

knows a lot more than I do.

Any treated lumber has a myriad of chemicals from pentachlorophenol, arsenic, bifenthrin and who knows what else...

I would rather see you build a new smoker from untreated lumber....   cost maybe a few hundred $....   compared to a long term illness from ingesting some of those chemicals over the years in the food you are eating, a few hundred is cheap....  If you have children, think what those chemicals could do to them....
