I felt dumb over the weekend when I realized that I left my digital thermometer in the smoke chamber. Fortunately, I realized it in time and after it cooled off it resumed normal function except for one button sticking. Unfortunately, I did it AGAIN and left it in for way to long and 'smoked' the thermometer

I don't trust myself not to do this again, so I want to get another probe-type thermometer, so I can monitor 3 pieces of meat at the same time. I currently have this unit and love it:

I was thinking of getting a second one, with extra food probes. Between the two units I would measure 3 pieces of meat and the cooking chamber.

Does anyone know if:
1) I can put a food probe in the smoker probe slot without a problem
2) Can I run two of these without them interfering with each other wirelessly.

Thanks!

No redi-check experts out there?

I have run two of them side by side before with no interference problems. Don't know about putting the food probe in the smoker probe input jack though. Have never tried but off hand I don't know why it shouldn't work.

Thanks montes. That's what I wanted to hear. I'm going to do a test on the food probe in the smoker slot today. I'll do an icewater test and see how it does.

I was most worried about interference, but if it works for you that's good news.

Yes, you can put a smoker probe in the food probe slot and vice versa. The probe electronics are the same. The only difference is the shape of the probe itself.

I think it would be a good entry

you may get points off for it splitting open and its guts coming out!
maybe a bacon weave to hold it together next time

Thanks for the advice guys. I ordered an 2 pack of extra food probes from ebay. I'm ordering another et-73 as soon as my amazon gift cards arrive from my credit card rewards.

One other question? A buddy of mine is interested in the ET-73 for use in his propane grill, to monitor chamber and meat; are these probes able to stand the heat of a traditional grill?

Uncle lar, I think next time I will wrap it in bacon. :)

The probes are good to about 400°.

Above that, from what I understand, the epoxy that holds the thermocouple junction together may fail.
