This is my first time smoking a beef tenderloin. Do you put a rub on it or inject it or just put it on the smoker and let it go?
 
IMHO. A beef tenderloin benifits more from a fast high temp cooking than it does from smoking.

 I would rather cut some filets ,bacon wrap and slap on a hot grill for a quick sear
 
I second that. If you want to add some smoky flavor on the grill you could do that with a packet of chips in foil. You are apt to dry out a tenderloin trying it low and slow.
