) is it ok to smoke in the AM for a couple of hours than put them in oven to finish up (I know this wrong) but, A man got to do what a man has to do. Thanks

Yeah there is no problem with that. When I need to do it, I will smoke it for about 4 hours and wrap it and put it in the oven and let it finish.

I'm with bigbaldbbq, try to smoke for at least 4 hours to get some bark going and give the meat a chance to pick up some good smoke flavor.
If you are going to put it in the oven to finish up I would set it for about 200, that way there is no chance of the temp raising up too much on you.
How long will it set in the oven?

If you have to throw it in the oven but like fire said make sure to give it 4-5 hours in good smoke to get the flavor. Don't forget to keep the thermo-meter in the butt so you can take it to about 200-205 then foil and cooler time at least 1-2 hours then pull for the good stuff.

Not a problem, I've done that when a storm has come in on my fun outdoors. Go for it.

Another option may be to finish them early (not sure about your time schedule) & put them in a warmed up cooler, stuffed with blankets, towels or newpaper in the dead air spaces. This method will keep a large chunk of meat like those HOT for quite a while (as in hours). I have used this for both Shoulders & Briskets & it works great. Even put your probe in one or both & monitor there temps with the lid closed. Just a thought...

Thanks All
The 4 hour smoke time sounds good. I going to oven the shoulders @200 to finish them. ?? When I get back and if I'm running out of time is it ok to bump up heat to get to 205 for pulling. Thanks
