Hello.  If you are getting smoke "puffing" out of the air intakes on the fire box you may have a couple problems.  The short answer is it shouldn't happen.  Are you keeping the exhaust wide open?  We need top know what smoker you are using!  The very first thing to do is turn the intake to the fire box in to the wind, turn your smoker 180 degrees.  IF that doesn't solve the problem then we would need to see many pictures of the smoker and also measurements of the cooking chamber, of the fire box, and of the opening between the fire box and the cooking chamber,  Now this response is based on a GUESS that you are talking about an offset smoker.  Much more info is needed otherwise and as many pictures as you can provide.

Fully open the exhaust stack choke plate... If the smoke comes out of the intakes, when it's really blowing, you have air leaks around the door on the CC...

Yea I know door dosent fit good at bottom had to settle for it fitting good at top and sides. Only realy back flows when getting fire started and it's smoking a lot. But yea after adding wood she blows smoke out around door. Still 100% better than the old charbroiler.

Well, if the smoker has air leaks, you will not be able to control the heat, for even heat distribution.... and the smoker will leak....
Time to sit back and think.... if the door is tight on top, cut the hinges loose... look for where the door doesn't fit... maybe the hinge on the door is holding up the rest of the door... I've seen that happen.... when the hinges are welded, the weld "PULLS" the door and then the bottom doesn't fit...

Take a picture, from the end of the smoker, showing the entire door and how it fits following the curve.... we can probably figure out where it needs to be tweaked and the easiest, best way to tweak it....

did you fix the air intakes..... so you could close them.....

Yea deal with it back in the build did fit horrible pipe unrolled and sprung open in middle. Bend and re welded hinges got it to fit good every where but bottom figured I would rather have gap at bottom than top. May need to try rib wizards trick with high temp sealer around door.

More draw.

Open the exhaust.

Also, if my smoker leaks, I never know it.  My fuel is fully lit before I add it.

I don't like that really visible smoke on my meat.

Good luck and good smoking.

Can you get a picture of the full curve..... from the hinge to the open gap.... so we can see where the gap starts and ends.....

For a redneck ingenuity possibility?

You could always try the old brick on the door handle trick I use on my SFB?

Keep gloves handy.

Then go back to Dave for the proper solution?

Also, sometimes a wind break comes in handy.

Good luck and good smoking.

Was going to install toggle clamps but ran out of time befor Memorial Day. And there are so many it's hard to tell which ones to get. Thought about some stove gasket material across bottom lip because there's a big gap in bottom where it's cut. Even with that verry pleased with first build. Defiantly some things I'll do different next time.

I think using a tank to start with would be a lot easier building it out of pipe leaves you open for a lot of warping and un rolling issues.
