Smoke house and shelter build

  1. Hello,

Wanted an upgrade to my electric smoker. Been searching and reading the site quite a bit lately, Pops build of his plywood smoke house really sparked my interest. I wanted something to hot and cold smoke in, also wanted propane fueled.

Figured my first step was prepare a area for serious smoking. I had a few days off last week so I went to work on my "Smoke Shelter"

Getting ready to start on the smoker soon.

Planning on making the smoker 24"x24" inside, and about 73" high at the front. Using 3/4" maple ply inside, then 1 1/2" of insulation, and toung and groove cedar on the outside. Also going to build a cabinet to go beside the smoker to house the propane tank and for general storage. The cabinet will be 24"x48"x40", nice stand up working height.

Got most of my materials together, waiting on some door hardware, the burner and regulator from Northern, and a few other items.

Did this bad boy in the MES yesterday.

    More the follow shortly.

    Thanks for reading.

  3. Got some time today to start on the smoke house. Raining here all day, had to built inside.

Got to make a run to Lowes tomorrow for some vents, hinges and stuff.

  4. Little more progress today.

  5. More progress. Getting close to buttoning this thing up. Went with 4x12 vents, hoping that will be enough.

  6. Front almost done. Upper door frame ready to install, the stove gasket is glued up and curing.

  7. Been slow going on the smoke house lately, too many other obligations. Hard to get much done in an hour or two here and there.

Got both door and frames finished, roof started.

  8. Finally got some time to make some progress.

Almost all the exterior work done.

Temporarily mounted my mailbox and plumbed it up. Had to fire it up for a little while to see how she does.

Had to throw a little heat at it to get it to start drawing.

Started mocking up the inter racks, won't really do much more inside until I get it to its perminant location, it's heavy enough as is, don't want to have to move it with the cement board lining the bottom.

  11. Search up "mailbox mod" here on the forum. Lots and lots of info.

  12. Thats a good looking smokehouse, Phil. I can see many nice hunks of smoked meat in your future.

  13. Thanks fella's!!

Finally got some strong backs and weak minds here today, got I moved to the proper place.

Misjudged the height of the smoke house a little. Notice the notched 2x6! (My daddy, who was a carpenter is rolling over in his grave)

Playing with the MES and the mailbox tonight in preparation for a couple brisket's to go on at 12am.

  14. And a coat of stain to pretty it up.

  15. Smoking the heck outta the deer meat today and yesterday.

    Jerky yesterday

    Sausage today.

Jerky turned out great. 9lbs of venison turned out 5lbs of finished product.

Sausage is taking its good 'ol time. 7 hours in and still at 145
