Smoke Hollow 4 in 1 Vents

I recently started smoking using my SH4n1 and I am hooked.  Thank you for the modification suggestions.  I plan on implementing them soon.  I have not been able to find any information on the proper use of the front damper and how it helps control temperature.  Can anyone shed some light on that?
