    Hello,

Got into smoking last year when my mother dug out a Meco charcoal bullet purchased in 1990 and never used. I have done ribs, brats, tenderloin, and pork loin on it and all have been good. The ribs are just fantastic, I doubt i will buy ribs in a restaurant again. I struggled to keep temps high enough in this smoker though, even with a full load of hot coals it would peak at 200 and usually run cooler than that so i would end up finishing things in the oven. I also tried rigging an electric system with a hot plate but the hot plate didn't generate enough heat either, good smoke though.

Last weekend I picked up a Smoke Hollow electric smoker on sale at Menards, and it holds tembs splendedly. I have a lot to learn yet, but I forsee this one getting heavy use. Been lurking here on the forums reading all kinds of stuff for the past year, but it is time to get posting too so here I am.

    Welcome to the SMF.

Try Royal Oak lump it burns hotter than briquettes. Make sure the smoker is out of the wind. You may need some mods to the fire basket to make it burn better.
