Sealing the door on a ECB

    So after my last mods to my ECB I still had temp problems but not as bad. The temp was no longer in the 300-325 but was in the 270 or so range regardless of how closed I had the bottom hole. So I started looking for air leaks and noticed a good 1/4" or better gap where the door is attached. At the time I simply tapped it on all four sides. This solved the problem I can now easily hold the temp in 200-220 range and higher if needed. Problem is that tape looks pretty crappy. So I was wondering if there was some sort of silicon that could handel the heat. Hopfully one that is clear and not white.

      Looking around at HD I noticed a silicon made for fireblock (what ever that is....) but is didnt say what temps it was good for, though it did say that it would swell around heat and smoke to prevent leaks and hold heat in. Might this work? Or is there a better product I should be aware of?

      Also on a side note I found a webber replacment grates for the smoke joe bbq that fits just right inside the fire bowl of the gourmet smoker. Not sure if it will fit the others.

    200 - 250 wich I can easily achive with the door sealed... (not leaking air in). I am just looking for a cleaner way of doing it than using tape. A heat tollerent silicon seemed like a good choice.

    So with the extra air flow, you are saying the temp goes too high?

    Of course ... more air to the fire, more fire. With the door completly open it might be different cooling it down just because of far too much. But as you know even that can cause flam ups. The reason it is increasing the heat in mine is because it is a small crack... possible being drawn the the bottom air opening (cross air current) causing the fire to raise.... thus high temps.... When I cut that off, I was and still am able to better controle my temp. In fact I was ablt to keep a steady 225 temp for 6 hours straight. Possible longer as it wasnt even begining to fall off, but at that point I closed the bottom hole completly allowing the fire to slowly go out.

    Oven rope around the door will work.

    That was going to be my suggestion OR less fuel.
