Hey everyone I had some time tonight to finally upload pics and explain my PITA of a brisket endeavor! LOL I mixed up Jeff's rub and rub the brisket the day before, got the smoker setup and up to temp, I added a 12 x 12 piece of tile (the RonP method) to my MES.

Everything was going well, about 4 hours in I hear a loud sort of pop, I run out the smoker and the chip loader is popped out. So I open up the smoker spritz out the fire in the wood box, put on a leather glove and empty the chip box, add some more pellets everything is going fine again. An hour goes by go back out to spritz the brisket and the bleeping door falls off!!! So I got back on here got into chat and some very nice people told me how to finish it in the oven....

Then come to find out my thermo fork is off on its temperature by at least 8 degrees after checking it with some boiling water. ( I know I need to get some Taylor probes) I pull the brisket at a estimated 185, 3 hours after we were supposed to have eaten it! All things considered it turned out pretty good, I only say that cause I think if I would have pulled it at a true 190 it would have been more tender.

I also smoked some mac n cheese and Dutch's style beans but didn't snap any pics. So enjoy!!

Thanks for stopping in!

Rough go of it. At least you got through it and it sounds like it tasted all right. Hopefully you'll get the smoker figured out and back in shape soon enough.

Don't give up. It'll get better.

I have heard that pop once when I was doing a ham in my MES. I came to the conclusion that with too much wood and ash in the tray I had gasified the wood and created a combustable that got ignited. Not sure it is true, but a small explosion might also explain the door coming off in your case.

I agree it was pretty full, I was wondering if that was enough force to have messed with the door. Either way I think some metal, rivets, and maybe some JB weld and I should be back in business!

I have never heard of the door blowing off or the chip loader popping out, you need to call Masterbuilt. I hope you installed it correctly.

It looks like that tile is large enough that when heated expanded and pressed off the back wall to push the door off. I seriously doubt a flare up from the wood pan would blow the door off.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread, I have the same smoker, what is the tile for please thanks

Man oh Man I was there well in chat as all this went down and it was pretty funny then but I felt for you and I'm really glad you held on like a trooper there Andy. You did a great job and the brisket looks great and you now have a bunch of good sanwich meat. Oh well I hope you got it fixed and will smoke something soon. Let us know if you need anymore help. Hold the Drama.

For hanging in there.

I think the door falling off was coincidence i doubt there was enough force to weaken those points on the top.
